Natasha's Law

If you work in foodservice you will no doubt already be familiar with Natasha’s Law. Following the tragic death of their daughter Natasha after eating a pre-packed baguette containing unlabelled sesame seeds, Tanya and Nadim Ednan-Laperouse campaigned tirelessly for a change in the law on food labelling to prevent future fatalities.

New regulations were agreed by the government back in 2019 and will require all food businesses to include full and detailed ingredients labelling on pre-packed for direct sale foods by October 2021. There are now 1 in 4 people living with allergies in the UK and so it’s more important than ever to make the ingredients of every item more transparent, both for the food service teams selling them and for the customer buying them.

With 6 months to go until this deadline we are now working hard behind the scenes with our catering clients to add new features to our payment systems that will help them deliver the necessary info to their customers.

Our systems already have the ability to store allergen information by product, but we’re also working on new integrations that will make it easier for clients to manage and update their systems with allergen info, both for new and for existing systems. We’re also looking at how our payment systems could help with highlighting allergen info to the customer at the point of sale, both in person and on our online ordering solutions.

We wholeheartedly support this change in the law and will be doing everything we can to support our catering clients in delivering it effectively at the point of sale. If you would like to find out more, please contact us.
